Art helps heal Jewish WWII Soldier

This Week on NBC Today show, they featured artist Si Lewen, German born Jew who enlisted in the US Army during WWII only to witness firsthand the horrors of the holocaust.  He turned to his art in his words “in order to heal I had to paint.” At 92, he continues to paint where he is constantly recycling works into new art. Because according to him this is how “creation and life proceeds. from creation to destruction to re-creation. Lewen is a true example of how we can use art as a catalyst or a change in our life.  It can release our fears, give us hope and heal our pain.

Art  can help us listen to our hearts. Because when we do art we are in constant dialogue with what is inside us, what touches us, moves us and betrays us . Art gives us the opportunity to take what we perceive and process it in a way that is constructive or life affirming.

When we practice expressive arts we are tapping into the creative energy that makes us and keeps us alive. When we return to this place within us where art can happen, true peace can result within us  and in our life. (see full story from link).
